Power Query was first introduced as a downloadable COM add-in with Excel 2010 and Excel 2013. It went native in Excel 2016 with its own grouping on the Data tab of the Excel Ribbon, as shown in the first screenshot below. Excel is very forgiving and will happily switch between data types where it can. Power Query is not as forgiving, therefore getting the correct data type is essential. Clicking the “Errors” link within the Queries & Connections pane will open a query showing all the errors.

When I try to add Power Query to my Excel 2019 application, it does not show up as either an "Inactive Application Add-In" or in "Manage COM addins". My IT department says that Power Query is not available for Excel2019. Below is their response: Power Query has been removed from Excel 2019 on March 4, 2019 Installed Excel Power Query on Excel 2013 packaged in Office 2013 standard. After installation the Add-in appears in the COM Add-ins menu but when the check box is checked and OK is clicked the ADD-in does not load.
